Genevieve Riutort on the West Side Food Bank, Fighting Food Insecurity, and the Importance of Social Services
This week on the Courageous Wellness podcast we sit down with Genevieve Riutort, the Chief Development Officer, of the Westside Food Bank. Westside Food Bank is an independent, non-governmental, 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation founded in 1981, which provides food to social service agencies on the Westside of Los Angeles County. The food provided often enables low-income people to stay in their homes, deterring the problem of homelessness, because it saves them from having to make the agonizing choice between paying for rent or food when they can’t afford both. Westside Food Bank serves 70 member agencies and over 100,000 people benefit from these services each year.
On this episode we discuss the Westside Food Bank, Genevieve's personal journey to her current position, fighting food insecurity, the importance of social services, and our own personal experiences dealing with food insecurity. We also discuss where the food at Westside Food Bank is sourced, their value on nutrition, and so much more.
We are grateful to Geneive for the work that she does and are excited to share this deeply personal episode!
