Charlotte Martin Shares Breast Cancer Diagnosis, Recovery and The Importance of Early Detection
For Breast Cancer Awareness month, this week we sit down with Charlotte Martin, breast cancer survivor and advocate.
In October 2018, Charlotte was diagnosed with Stage 1 HER2 Breast Cancer at the age of 31. An extremely rare form of breast cancer, with a 1 in 10,000 chance of contraction at such a young age. Charlotte was able to detect it at an early stage, because she performed regular self breast exams. In the years leading up to her own diagnosis, her doctors had all declined to do mammogram checks, because she was quote “too young” and “healthy,” even though her own mother had suffered from Breast Cancer. What followed after her diagnosis was chemotherapy, IVF treatments, a double mastectomy -- and the large price tag and emotional toil that came with it all.
We are so grateful to Charlotte for sharing her own experience and fighting for women to have early checks, being your own health advocate, and honor breast cancer awareness month.
